Senate staff dies while on duty in Dubai

A senior official of the Parliamentary Service Commission died Monday, February 13 while on duty in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Wellingtone Namenge Ogoya, a Senior Research Officer in the Directorate of Parliamentary Research Services deployed to the Senate had accompanied Committee on Energy which is in Dubai.

Clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyengenye made the announcement in an internal memo to the parliamentary staff.

The cause of his demise was not revealed.

He said Namenge has been an exuberant individual of exceptional commitment, passion and courage.

“He was a principled and patriotic staffer of integrity who was steadfast in his service to Parliament and his country. His death is a big loss to the Parliamentary Service and the parliamentary fraternity,” he said in the memo.

Namenge joined the Parliamentary Service in October 2008 as an officer in the office of former Nambale MP Chris Okemo, then a Commissioner of the Parliamentary Service Commission.

He thereafter joined the Directorate of Parliamentary Research Services in March 2013 where he served until his demise.
