Kenya National Examinations Council CEO David Njengere has celebrated the council staff for successfully administering five national exams last year.

In 2022, the council had two KCPE exams, two KCSE exams and the maiden Kpsea exam.

“It’s only fair that we appreciate KNEC members of staff,” Njengere said.

This year KNEC engaged 30,000 examiners in 35 marking centres.

However, they suffered a setback after they held a strike during the marking of the KCSE exam early this year.

The marking of KCSE exams at St. Francis Girls High School, Mang'u, had been disrupted after teachers started to protest over delayed pay and poor working conditions.

The teachers were marking CRE exam papers when the situation escalated.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu and basic education PS Belio Kipsang arrived at the school to calm the situation and marking resumed after.

Marking for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination began on January 2 at various marking centres across the country.

Last year, 884,263 candidates sat the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exam.

Male candidates were 405,962 while 420,845 were female
