Exercise caution when using roads, police urge motorists

Eight people died following an accident in Nakuru on Tuesday.

Police have called on Kenyan motorists to be extra vigilant when using roads, during this festive season.

This follows a series of road accidents that have occurred in various parts of the country, which have seen several people lose lives as others sustained serious injuries.

"We urge all road users to take personal responsibility and exercise caution especially during this festive and rainy season by adhering to traffic rules on overtaking and speed limits," the National Police Service said.

On Wednesday morning, several people sustained injuries and were rushed to various hospitals following separate accidents.

One occurred along the Maai Mahiu-Naivasha road where two trailers burst into flames following a head on collision. Occupants of the trailers were rushed to hospital.

Another accident involving multiple vehicles occurred near Thika town along the Nairobi – Thika - Nyeri Road (A2).

The two accidents happen just a day after another tragic crash that left eight people dead at Ngata Bridge, Nakuru Town West Sub-County along Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.

Twenty others who were seriously injured in the accident involving two matatus and a truck were taken to the Rift Valley Provincial General Hospital and other hospitals in Nakuru City for treatment.
