Rejected Meru executive member Casty Micheni has urged MCAs to give the governor time to showcase her leadership.

Micheni had been nominated to head the youth, sports, gender and social development docket.

She was rejected alongside six other nominees in the ongoing wrangle between Governor Kawira Mwangaza and the MCAs.

But speaking to the Star, the youthful nominee said it is barely a year since the governor took office hence too early to start judging her performance.

“How I wish that she can be given time now to showcase her way of doing things. Three months is a short period; to me the impeachment was very immature, it had not ripened,” she said.

“If she is given the opportunity in one or two years’ time we will be able to judge her. Right now we don’t have grounds to judge her.”

Early this month, Meru MCAs reinitiated another impeachment of Mwangaza.

The MCAs want her removed over alleged gross misconduct, appointment of her husband to the county office and wrongly dismissing county officers.

Mwangaza had appointed her husband, Murega Baichu as the patron of the Meru Youth Service.

The MCAs claim she did not conduct a transparent and competitive recruitment process.

They are also accusing her of forcefully getting into the county assembly and mobilising an unlawful riot of assembly members.

But Micheni says the people who are fighting the governor have misunderstood her and called for talks to solve the stalemate.

"It is my prayer that they may understand her. I am for unity and I pray that the MCAs and the governor will have a sitting and agree,” she said.

On November 30, a Meru court barred her impeachment motion.

Justice Wamae Cherere said the motion did not follow the correct procedure in initiating her removal.
