Six revenue officers in Homa Bay were arrested for allegedly stealing more than Sh1 million.

The employees of the county government work at the department of revenue.

The suspects include a revenue inspector; three licensing officers, a revenue collector and a senior ICT revenue officer were arrested on Wednesday and are being detained at Homa Bay police station.

Homa Bay County Police Commander Samson Kinne said the six suspects were arrested on grounds that they engaged in financial malpractices.

They breached the county revenue law and allegedly stole public funds.

The suspects reportedly acquired Sh1,011,300, public funds which belong to the county government.

“They devised illegal methods of acquiring the revenue which Homa Bay residents remit to the government. They steal money after transacting various businesses,” Kinne said.

The suspects were arrested after preliminary investigations linked them with the theft.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday, the police boss said the six were being interrogated to reveal more information on the theft.

“Investigations are going on in regards to the loss of public funds,” he said.

He said the suspects will be arraigned to answer the charges relating to the offence.

“They must face trial in court over the offence upon completion of our investigations,” he added.
