Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged the Azimio la Umoja coalition members should create the office of the official opposition leader.

He said the creation of the office will quench their thirst for the ‘nusu mkate’ government which according to the Senator does not exist.

“To my colleagues in Azimio they have a proposal to amend the constitution to create the office of official opposition leader,” Cherargei said on Thursday.

“Hiyo ni mambo wanaweza ongea huko, wakifaulu kuleta bunge hiyo maneno  itaamuliwa huku. Lakini sahi watupatie serikali yetu nafasi ya kuongeza nchi (They can bring the matter to Parliament to be debated upon but for now they should give our government opportunity to serve the country that put them to power),” he said.

Raila has declared plans to have a mass protest starting December 7.

He said December 7, will mark the start of a series of consultations on the state of the nation, following the removal of the commissioners.

The first rally will be held at Kamkunji Grounds in Nairobi and the second will be held at the same venue on December 12.

This is the day Ruto is expected to lead the country in the Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Raila, on Sunday, promised that during the rallies, he will make a revelation on what transpired during the election.

However, Ruto said his administration will not block the Azimio leader from going to the streets, so long as the demonstrations do not degenerate into the destruction of property.

Cherargei urged President William Ruto to remain firm and not be duped into a forced handshake by Azimio.

“Don’t be intimidated or blackmailed into a forced handshake. That arrangement does not exist,” he said.

The lawmaker said the planned maandamo is a ploy for a forced handshake with Ruto’s government, which according to him shall not come to pass.

Cherargei said that Azimio should focus on being the opposition and let the government of the day work.

“If you lost stay at home and do your work as opposition. If you won, stay in office and work for the people of Kenya and that is the essence of democracy,” he said.
