Wetang'ula convenes special sitting to approve CRA nominees

The MPs adjourned on December 2 for a two-month long Christmas Holiday.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang'ula has recalled the members of parliament for a special sitting on Thursday, December 8.

In a notice, Wetang'ula said he had received and acceded to a request by the leader of the majority party in the House to have the sitting conducted.

The MPs adjourned on December 2, for a two-month-long Christmas Holiday.

“It is hereby notified to all the members of the National Assembly and the general public that December 8 has been appointed as the day for the special sittings. The sittings will be held at the main parliament buildings commencing 10 am and 2:30 pm,” reads the notice.

Among the issues the Speaker has said will be transacted on the day are notification of a special motion to approve the nominees for appointment to the Commission of Revenue Allocation (CRA) and conveyance of urgent messages from the Executive or the Senate.

A report from the committee on finance and national planning regarding the vetting of the nominees will also be tabled before the motion is initiated.

Other businesses include the first reading of the Statute Law (Miscellaneous amendments Bill) 2022, consideration of a report from the committee of the delegated legislation and approval of NGCDF committee members for various constituencies.
