Musalia, Wetang'ula to campaign for Wakoli in Bungoma senate race

Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula and  Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to rally support for Ford Kenya candidate Wafula Wakoli ahead of byelections for Bungoma senatorial seat.

In a statement on Saturday, Wetang'ula said that he is confident the Bungoma senatorial seat will go to the Simba party.

"Musalia Mudavadi and I will be traversing across the nine constituencies of Bungoma drumming up support for Lion's party candidate Mwalimu David Wafula Wakoli. The Bungoma Senate seat belongs to the Simba party!" he said.

Ford Kenya is led by Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang'ula who quit the Bungoma seat after landing the Speaker job.

Wakoli served as a teacher and a long-term personal aide to Wetang'ula.

Azimio camp is supporting DAP-K party leader Wafula Wamunyinyi to grab the seat from Kenya Kwanza.

UDA party fronted ex-Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga for the seat.

The Bungoma poll will be conducted on December 8.

Others candidates in the Bungoma race are Jacob Machacha Majembe, an ally of former Cabinet minister Fred Gumo and Bishop Harman Kasili, who is the chairman of the Lake Region Economic Bloc private sector organisations.

Other constituencies conducting by-elections are Kandara and Garissa Township where elections will be on January 5, 2023.

Aden Duale resigned as the Garissa Town MP to take up the Defense CS post.

Immediate Kandara MP Alice Wahome also resigned after landing an appointment as Water, Sanitation and Irrigation CS.
