Former Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga has asked National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to keep off Bungoma politics.

Mabonga is a senatorial aspirant in the forthcoming by-election in Bungoma county.

He said Wetangula should allow residents to elect their next senator on December 8, without coercion.

He was speaking during a political rally in Kimilili town on Wednesday.

Mwambu, who is eyeing the seat on UDA ticket said the Speaker who is holding one of the top offices in the country has already started threatening those who are against his preferred candidate.

"Mr Speaker, you are the president of the National Assembly and you should be neutral when it comes to politics,” Mwambu said.

He said that Wetang’ula was also the father of Bungoma county and he should embrace everyone without showing favouritism.

"Political leaders such as Kipchumba Murkomen have said they will not interfere with elections in their areas, why is our speaker doing it here?" he posed.

Wetang’ula has urged Bungoma residents to elect Ford Kenya's candidate Wafula Wakoli.

He pleaded with the electorate not to make a mistake of electing a non-Ford Kenya member to lead them.

"We need to protect our house from outsiders not to invade it," Wetang'ula said.
