Police on Monday arrested a suspected cattle rustler in Turkana Central and recovered an AK 47 Assault Rifle with an empty magazine.

The arrest followed a tip-off from members of the public, that four men had been sighted within California Village in Turkana Central Sub-county armed with an AK 47 rifle.

The officers from Lodwar Police Station responded swiftly to the alert and conducted a raid at a rented house, leading to the recovery of the firearm.

The owner of the house has since been arrested while police are pursuing three others that escaped.

National Police Service has called upon the public to partner with them in crime prevention by continuously sharing information.

President William Ruto issued an order for security agencies to deal firmly, decisively and conclusively with those involved in cattle rustling.

Ruto urged local leaders to engage their people in order to combat lawlessness, which has hampered education and development and caused tension among communities.

“We must do whatever it takes to bring peace to the North Rift. Many people are peaceful but there are a few criminals who must stop or we will force them to stop,” he said.

Last week on Monday, November 14, Interior and National Administration CS Kithure Kindiki said the state is committed to putting an end to banditry.

He said the government will work with security agents to find and dismantle all gangs responsible for murders and theft.
