Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has said that Fredrick Omondi, a Kenyan who sought help in Tanzania, is being assisted.

Omondi, who relocated to Tanzania in 2016 after securing a job, accused police in Tanzania of harassment.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mutua said the government will offer him support.

"Kenyan Mr. Frederick Omondi is being assisted by the Kenyan High Commission in Dar-es-Salaam. We will give him as much support as legally possible. This afternoon he was welcomed by Kenyan Ambassador to Tanzania Amb. Isaac Njenga and Mission staff," Mutua said.

Omondi's clip went viral on social media after he was recorded pleading for help.

Earlier on Tuesday, Mutua had directed the officials to assist Omondi.

"I have noted the online clip of Kenyan Frederick Omondi, who is being held in Tanzania," Mutua said.

"I directed our Tanzanian team to find out the whole story and to assist him."

Omondi was invited by Zacharia Hans Poppe to Tanzania in 2016.

He was tasked with managing a new hotel Poppe was developing.

Unfortunately, the boss died in 2021 due to Covid-19.

Omondi was then allegedly accused by his employer's son of stealing from his father.

"My boss had given me a car, a good life. He felt like I had taken his spotlight," Omondi said.

Omondi decided to open his own pharmacy business and named it Bamburi Pharmaceutical Limited after leaving his former boss' company.

The son of his former boss however kept a trail of him and further accused him of theft.

He allegedly took his passport which had a work permit stuck on it leaving him unemployed and unable to get a job.

"I cannot work in this country because I need a work permit to work which is stuck on the passport, and yet they are holding on to my passport," he said.
