Karua, Mudavadi grace Bishop Sulumeti's golden jubilee ceremony

Sulumeti is marking the 50th year of service since he was first ordained in 1972.

Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua on Saturday attended the golden jubilee ceremony of Bishop Emeritus of Kakamega Philip Sulumeti.

Sulumeti is marking his 50th year of service since he was first ordained priest in 1972.

Karua took to Twitter to confirm her attendance at the ceremony held in Bukuhngu Stadium,  Kakamega.

"At Bukhungu stadium witnessing the Golden Jubilee of Bishop Emeritus RT Rev Sulumeti of Kakamega since consecration as a Bishop," Karua said in a tweet.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi is also in attendance.

Earlier, Mudavadi through his spokesperson Kibisu Kabatesi, said the spiritual life of the people of Kakamega and Kisumu is anchored on the Bishop, who dedicated his life as their shepherd.

He celebrated Sulumeti saying he has achieved excellency as Bishop of the Catholic Church of Kenya.

"He played a tremendous role in the pastoral life of the Church, specifically Kakamega and the Metropolitan of Kisumu at large where he rejuvenated the vibrance of faith," the PCS said.

Mudavadi further said Bishop Sulumeti contributed to the development of Kakamega including the construction of social amenities in health care at St Mary's Mumias Mission Hospital and St Elizabeth Mukumu Hospital.

"In education, Kakamega boasts of many Catholic-sponsored and especially girls' schools," he added.

Mudavadi said the clergy played a role in developing the foundation of the 2010 Constitution.
