Amani National Congress (ANC) has expressed gratitude to President William Ruto for living up to his promise and appointing former party leader Musalia Mudavadi as Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Addressing a media briefing, party officials and elected leaders said the appointment serves as a clear illustration of Ruto’s commitment to honest, truthful and dependable politics.

“It equally confirms the President’s deep trust in the leadership aptitude and ideology of Mudavadi,” ANC secretary general Simon Gikuru said.

He assured that Mudavadi will work side by side with the President and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the Cabinet in restoring the economic, social and political dignity of Kenyans.

Gikuru said Mudavadi takes to the office of Prime Cabinet Secretary a robust legacy of experience in public service “buttressed by strong patriotic values”, a culture of statesmanship and integrity.

“ANC calls on all Kenyans to put behind the echoes of political campaigns and support the President to create a more dignifying nation and a brighter future for all citizens,” he added.

Emuhaya MP Omboko Milemba said it has been a long journey and struggle for ANC to have its former party leader occupy one of the highest offices on land.

“We want to thank President Ruto for steering away from politics of conmanship and deceit as he embarks on the journey to transform Kenya,” he said.

Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana said Ruto has demonstrated that he is a person who can be trusted.

“He is very different from some top politicians we know. They tell you this today and then tomorrow it is a different story,” he added.

Mudavadi also thanked Ruto for considering and appointing him as the Prime Cabinet Secretary in his government.

"It is an honour I accept with great humility and a sense of gratitude. I promise the President and the people of Kenya that I will serve them with utmost dedication to the best of my ability and within the confines of the Constitution of Kenya," he said.

Mudavadi said he is fully awake to the many challenges that lie ahead of them as they embark on the herculean task of transforming the country's battered economy and restoring dignity to the lives of Kenyans.

And as Mudavadi was taking the oath of office at State House Nairobi, ANC appointed Lamu Governor Issa Timamy as the acting party leader.

In a communication, the party said Timamy had been nominated to take leadership of the party by its Council Bureau.

"The ANC Council Bureau has since nominated Hon. Governor Issa Abdallah Timamy as the acting Party leader in accordance with the ANC party constitution," Gikuru said on Thursday.

"The ANC Party wishes Mudavadi God's blessings in his service as Prime Cabinet Secretary and heartily welcomes Issa Timamy into his new role as party leader."

Mudavadi stepped down as party leader after his nomination as Prime Cabinet Secretary.

Prior to taking over the reigns of the party, Timamy was one of Mudavadi's five deputy party leaders at ANC.
