Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has celebrated Bishop Emeritus of Kakamega, Philip Sulumeti on his 50th Anniversary since his ordination.

Bishop Sulumeti will on Saturday be marking the 50th year of service since he was first ordained in 1972.

In a statement released on Friday, Mudavadi through his spokesperson Kibisu Kabatesi said the Bishop has achieved excellency as Bishop of the Catholic Church of Kenya.

"He played a tremendous role in the pastoral life of the Church, specifically Kakamega and the Metropolitan of Kisumu at large where he rejuvenated the vibrance of faith," the PCS said.

He said the spiritual life of the people of Kakamega and Kisumu is anchored on the Bishop, who dedicated his life as their shepherd.

Mudavadi further said Bishop Sulumeti contributed to the development of Kakamega including the construction of social amenities in health care at St Mary's Mumias Mission Hospital and St Elizabeth Mukumu Hospital.

"In education, Kakamega boasts of many Catholic-sponsored and especially girls' schools," he added.

He also pointed out that the clergy had played a role in developing the foundation of the 2010 Constitution.

He said the report of The Bishop Sulumeti Consensus Committee had paved the way for the National Constitutional Conference in 2004.

Mudavadi added that the report ensured compromise and presented the delegates with a way out of a dead end over the controversial proposals for a new constitution.

"I wish him good health and pleasant life," Mudavadi said.
