The popular instant communication app owned by Meta is reportedly facing a hitch. 

A Meta company spokesperson Josh Breckman told New York Times that they are aware of the hitch.

"We're aware that some people are currently having trouble sending messages and we're working to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible," he said.

The outage was being experienced in many parts across the globe and the outage tracking website DownDetector recorded a spike in the number of problems recorded at 10 am Tuesday.

The chart shows a view of problem reports submitted in the past 24 hours compared to the typical volume of reports by the time of day.

It is common for some problems to be reported throughout the day. Downdetector only reports an incident when the number of problem reports is significantly higher than the typical volume for that time of day.

Meta is yet to give a statement on the outage.

People took to Twitter to make fun of the situation. Others thought their internet had a problem.
