Kenya Kwanza and Azimio camps have continued to differ over the choice of President William Ruto's Cabinet nominees.
Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei on Thursday accused his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna of being against women for opposing the nomination of Aisha Jumwa.
"Aisha Jumwa is competent enough. If Senator Sifuna has a problem, he should bring it before the appointment committee,” Cherargei said.
He added that in his culture, it is embarrassing to fight women.
Sifuna, however, downplayed the accusations saying he has nothing against women in power.
Jumwa, the immediate former Malindi MP, is the Cabinet nominee in the ministry of Public Service and Gender.
Those opposed to her nomination have cited integrity concerns considering she has an active court case.
Earlier this week, Sifuna termed her nomination a big joke.
"There are people in Kenya Kwanza like Kithure Kindiki who are competent for any government position but Aisha Jumwa is a big joke. She is not competent or suitable for any position,” he said.
In his tiff with Cherargei, Sifuna said Ruto nominated other women in the cabinet but he hasn't raised a finger against them because they are competent.
"President Ruto has named people like Rebecca Miano, Soipan Tuya, Penianah Malonza and Susan Wafula who are competent,” Sifuna said.
The ODM secretary general further noted that one can be competent for a position but not suitable for it because of integrity issues.
"There are good people in Kenya Kwanza but just by the names he has proposed, it is clear William Ruto wants to run all the ministries because we know the competencies of the people he nominated," Sifuna said
Sifuna and Jumwa's rivalry dates back to 2020 when they had a nasty exchange during the Msambweni parliamentary by-election campaigns.
This led to the two being summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).
Azimio coalition MPs have vowed to be thorough in the vetting exercise of Ruto's cabinet nominees.
The MPs have criticised the choice of some the nominees and questioned their eligibility to hold Cabinet posts.
