Murega Baicu, husband to Meru governor Kawira Mwangaza has dismissed those criticising him for attending the governor's meetings.

In a video seen by the Star, Murega said there is nothing wrong with him attending the meetings as he has a right.

"The same way media people attend government meetings, or why are you guys here? so that is the answer."

"Let us say we have visitors who are contributing to our growth, why should I not be there? Government is made up of me and you, the same way everybody has a chance to attend the governor's meeting, why is it an issue when it comes to me, it's my right," he said.

Murega has in recent days hit headlines after concerns that he was attending almost all functions held by the governor.

Recently, Kawira appointed Baicu as the Meru Youth Service Patron.

She said Murega’s position will not be paid or compensated but will be more of a volunteer as he serves the county.

“This office will neither have a salary nor will it have allowances. This office will be held by the first gentleman of the county, he will just be helping the less fortunate and uplifting them,” she said.

Murega was also given the role of Meru hustlers Ambassador by the ministry of tourism.

Kawira later defended her move to give her husband two roles in her administration.

In a social media post, she said without her husband, she would not have made it to the Governor.

"Too many that see you wanaona "jamaa wa makofia" what they forget is that without you there would be no "Governor ni Mama" in Meru county," she said.

Kawira noted that during her campaigns, nobody believed in her apart from her husband.
