Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has vowed to wipe out cartels that have been hindering service delivery in the county.

Speaking in Kiambu on Tuesday, Wamatangi warned county officials who have been colluding with cartels to embezzle funds meant for the betterment of society.

"Get that money but make sure you do not get caught by Wamatangi  because when I find you, I promise you I will escort you home," he said.

The governor said his administration is ready to seal all the loopholes the cartels have been using to siphon public funds in the pretense of service delivery.

Wamatangi further suspended all foreign travel until the county is fully constituted.

About two weeks ago, during a familiarisation tour in Thika subcounty, the governor said he is confident he will bring the county back to its former state.

Wamatangi joins a long list of governors who have been issuing stern action against those embezzling public funds.

“My administration will pursue accountability in the running public institutions to discharge their duties,” he said.

Governors Simba Arati (Kisii), Kawira Mwangaza (Meru) as well as Irungu Kang’ata (Murang’a) have also issued a warning to cartels.

During a recent interview, Arati said he is going to mercilessly deal with corruption cartels, land grabbers and uphold accountability in his government.

The governor termed it as a journey of reviving the county starting from corruption cartels and holding lazy county workers accountable.

President-elect William Ruto on Monday also said his administration will fight corruption at any length.

Throughout his campaigns, Ruto and deputy Rigathi Gachagua warned of serious consequences to anyone caught stealing public funds.
