As MCAs in Kiambu county prepare to be sworn in, they have raised the alarm over selection of house leadership.

They are appealing to President-elect William Ruto to ensure the selection of the assembly's leader of majority, the deputy majority leader, chief whip and deputy whip is conducted transparently.

They allege that, even before they are sworn in, Governor Kimani Wamatangi has proposed the majority leader, deputy majority leader, minority leader and chief whip.

The MCAs who sought anonymity because they have not been sworn in said some names had been proposed and forwarded to the UDA secretariat.

The MCAs from UDA and those elected as independent candidates had met in Limuru constituency for the second time since they were elected.

They accused Wamatangi of failing to invite them to a meeting to get acquainted with one another, saying they expect to be sworn in next week.

"The news came as a surprise when we heard that some names had been forwarded to the UDA secretariat. We should be told and even be involved. We have our own proposals for MCAs for whom we want to occupy those seats," one of the MCA-elect said.

They were drawn from Lari, Limuru, Kabete, Kikuyu and Kiambaa constituencies.

They appealed to Ruto and party secretary general Veronica Maina to intervene and ensure transparency.

Kiambu county UDA coordinator Susan Wangui told journalists in a phone interview that the selection lies with the governor after consulting with the MCAs.

Wangui said it was upon the governor to handle such issues since they were elected to serve the community.

"We were only involved to ensure we lobby people to support our party and candidates. However, we cannot comment on that issue, and we advise you to go to the governor," she said.

Efforts to get a comment from the governor have been unsuccessful and his personal assistant did not respond to our calls nor respond to text meesages.

The MCAs explained that reps from Lari, Limuru, Kabete, Kikuyu, Kiambaa, Kiambu and Githunguri are supposed to take seats of majority leader and chief whip since they have the majority.
