EX-MP Isaac Mwaura expresses interest in Senate Speaker post

Former nominated senator Isaac Mwaura has expressed interest in the Senate Speaker's post.

The ex-MP on Tuesday took nomination papers for the Senate Speaker position.

"Pale Senate picking forms for Speaker position. I served as Speaker’s Panel Member in the 12th Parliament assisting Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka," he said in a statement on Facebook

"I was the first to conduct Senate Sessions in Kiswahili. I believe I have what it takes."

Mwaura is among 15 others who have picked the papers.

On Monday, the National Assembly acting Clerk Serah Kioko notified the public of vacancies for the Speaker and Deputy Speaker posts.

Others who have also taken the forms are Wiper's Kalonzo Musyoka and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula.

Mwaura will battle for the seat against former Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi and former Mombasa governor candidate Hassan Omar as they are all allied to the Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

Other individuals who have so far picked the papers are Isaac Aluoch, Jared Oundo, George Bush, Dr Rodgers Manana, Beatrice Kinyua, Dorothy Kemunto and Jecinta Lesiangiki.

Josephat Mutua, Mohamud Halake, Michael Gichuri and Joshua Boit also picked the nomination papers in Parliament.

The House's first sitting to be held on Thursday, September 8, will see the MPs-elect sworn into office and speakers and deputy speakers of both houses elected on the same day.
