Mombasa county has over 600,000 registered voters but the exercise was marred by a low voter turnout.

Faky Mohammed, a polling officer, said that compared to last general election, the voter turnout in Mombasa was low.

"Last election we had people on the queue by 7.30am but today the case is different. We opened at 6am and we have received 14 people," he said.

IEBC officials, however, remained hopeful that turnout in Mombasa would improve with time.
