Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has lashed out at Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance for claiming that President-elect William Ruto is 'bribing' its elected leaders into joining his camp.

Duale said the constitution guarantees every Kenyan the freedom of association and therefore the MPs-elect have a right to associate with any camp they deem fit.

"It's free will. It is a constitutional right guaranteed in the Bill of Rights," he said.

"Gone are the days where coercion, intimidation, blackmail, threats, arm-twisting, manipulation and witch hunt was the order of the day! We are now in the days of freedom, rule of law and respect for the Constitution."

The former Majority leader urged the Raila Odinga-led camp to stop with what he called "long lectures and mind games", saying they are meant to incite Kenyans based on the fears of the Coalition.

"It is therefore time to let Kenyans move on and avoid dragging them in unnecessarily created stories meant to evoke emotions founded on untruths. We are a country governed by the Constitution. We are a Party governed by the Constitution," he added.

Duale said the decamping should not be subject to cause worry within Azimio.

"The fact that Political Parties and indeed several Members-Elect are choosing to work with Kenya Kwanza Coalition should not cause any jitters to our brothers."

Azimio spokesperson Makau Mutua had earlier on Friday claimed that the UDA leader is buying out Azimio and Independent leaders in a bid to show that he is more powerful.

"We are shocked that DP William Ruto, who harbours dreams of leading Kenya, is already engaged in acts of impunity and disregard of the rule of law," Mutua said.

Mutua urged all non-Kenya Kwanza elected leaders to stand firm and refuse to be 'bought'.

"We ask our supporters and those elected on Azimio, or as Independents, to stand firm to vindicate our democracy."
