Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa now says he also wants to know what killed Brian Olunga, the man he has been implicated in the murder.

Speaking to the media, the legislator said he is cooperating with police as they investigate the matter.

“I went to Nairobi to get an anticipatory bail pending arrest but when I saw on TV the regional police commander asking me to surrender, I drove all the way to this place and I’m ready to cooperate with the police so that I also know what killed that young man,” Barasa said.

The MP alleged that on Sunday, one of his bodyguards was attacked and badly injured and is currently in the hospital recuperating.

Barasa said he was also attacked the same day and reported the matter to the police.

“There were other people with guns as well including my competitor, the police officer who was manning the polling stations. We will also be making an application that all firearms that were there be subjected to forensic investigations,” he said.

The legislator presented him to Bungoma police station and was placed under arrest as investigations into a murder case go on.

On Thursday, police gave him a six-hour ultimatum to surrender to any police station.

DCI George Kinoti said they want Barasa to shed light on the death of Brian Olunga, his rival's aide.

He is alleged to have shot him on the forehead killing him on the spot on August 8, at Chebukwabi in Kimilili, Bungoma county.

“A specialized team of sleuths based from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau and the Homicide department has been dispatched to augment the teams on the ground for his manhunt,” Kinoti said.

“Serious action will be taken against any person/s found to be harbouring the murder suspect.”

On Wednesday, the DPP issued a warrant of arrest against Barasa.

The MP reportedly shot and killed Brian Olunga on August 9.

Olunga was a bodyguard to Brian Khaemba, who was Barasa's opponent in the Kimilili parliamentary race.

DPP, Noordin Haji, has given directions to have Barasa apprehended, record a statement and have the relevant file availed to his office for appropriate action.
