ODPP obtain arrest, search warrant for MP Barasa

Barasa is alleged to have shot and killed opponent's bodyguard on August 9.

The office of the director of public prosecution has obtained a warrant of arrest for Kimilili member of parliament Didmus Barasa.

In a statement on Thursday, ODPP Western regional head Peter Kiprop said that they have also obtained a search warrant for his premises.

"ODPP has obtained an arrest warrant for Didmus Barasa for failing to avail himself to the police to record a statement on allegations of killing his opponent's bodyguard Brian Olunga," Kiprop said.

Kiprop said the ODPP obtained the warrants and is ready to proceed with the matter once the MP is apprehended.

Barasa allegedly shot and killed his opponent's bodyguard on August 9.

Olunga was a bodyguard to Brian Khaemba and Barasa's opponent in the Kimilili parliamentary race.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti on Thursday asked the MP to surrender to the police within six hours.

“We are warning Barasa, who has since gone into hiding after the brutal murder of one Brian Olunga, to surrender to the nearest police station within the next 6 hours,” he said.

“A specialized team of sleuths based from the elite Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau and the Homicide department has been dispatched to augment the teams on the ground for his manhunt,"

DCI said that serious actions will be taken against any person found harbouring the MP.
