Jubilee Kirinyaga governor candidate Charles Kibiru has conceded defeat in the Kirinyaga governorship race.

While accepting the outcome, which is yet to be officially announced, the outgoing senator, in a Facebook post thanked the county residents, family members and his running mate Peter Ndambiri for the support.

"I take this early opportunity to accept and respect the choice of Kirinyaga voters in relation to the just concluded Gubernatorial elections where I was a candidate."

"I wish to thank all my supporters, my electoral team, friends, my running mate Hon. Peter Ndambiri and my family for your support during the entire electioneering period,"reads the post.

Kibiru who was the Azimio governor candidate flag bearer voted at Getuya primary school in Ndia.

He was endorsed by the coalition on Sartuday after Narc Kenya's Muriithi Kagai accepted to step down and support him.

However, in a number of polling centres in which the Star visited, Kagai garnered several votes despite his stepping down.

The gubenatorial results are yet to be released as most tallying centers are still receiving results from different polling centres.
