Ballot boxes arrive past midnight in Nyamira tallying centres

Presiding officers say delays at various polling stations and failure of the Kiems kits prolonged the exercise

• At the Kitutu Masaba constituency tallying centre, which is at the Nyambaria Boys Secondary school, presiding officers started delivering the boxes from 1.00am.

• In North Mugirango constituency, the first batch of tallying boxes arrived at the constituency tallying centre at Kebabe Girls Secondary School at 3.00 am.

Ballot boxes from polling centres in Kitutu Masaba, Nyamira started arriving at the constituency talling centres past midnight.  

At the Kitutu Masaba constituency tallying centre, which is at the Nyambaria Boys Secondary school, presiding officers started delivering the boxes from 1am.

In North Mugirango constituency, the first batch of tallying boxes arrived at the constituency tallying centre at Kebabe Girls Secondary School at 3am.

Similar delays were experienced at the constituency tallying centre at Nyambaria Boys Secondary School.

Presiding officers said delays at various polling stations and failure of the Kiems kits prolonged the exercise. 

Nyamira IEBC election manager Anthony Njoroge however said he is impressed with the progress and called upon residents to be calm as results are being announced.

He said winners of various positions from MCA to governor will be announced at the constituency and county level.

“So far we are doing well and there are no challenges as much as ferrying the ballots is concerned.

"We are glad that the exercise is going on well and we want to urge our residents to remain calm as we work to ensure everything goes as planned,” Njoroge said.

Counting of votes is however yet to start at the Kitutu Masaba constituency tallying centre.

Returning officer Benson Abuko said they are still receiving results from across the constituency.
