Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru on Tuesday decried over denial of access into the polling stations of both her agents and those attached to UDA presidential candidate William Ruto.

Speaking after casting her vote at Kiamugumo primary school polling centre in Gichugu, Waiguru said it took her a lot of effort and time and the intervention of other leaders for them to be allowed into the stations to monitor the situation.

She added that by last evening they had been assured that the agents would be allowed into the stations only for them to be denied access after lacking presidential badges and stamped governor's letters.

Moving forward, she reiterated that she would believe in the credibility of the elections if the team will be allowed during the counting and tallying exercises.

Waiguru, however, expressed confidence in being re-elected as she hailed the residents for their recommendable turn-up.

She noted that some of the polling centres had registered a low turnout during the morning hours due to the cold weather while some were busy on their rice farms.

"We are in a rice planting season and that explains why many farmers had to first attend to their farms before showing up at the polling stations," she said.
