A casual labourer was killed when a metal oil tank he was offloaded from a lorry crushed him in Nairobi’s Shauri Moyo area.

The victim was among workers offloading the tank at the Energy Petrol Station along General Waruinge Road when the incident happened on Monday afternoon.

He was identified as Harrison Nduku, 28, and police say they are investigating the incident.

Nairobi police boss James Mugera said they were called and informed of the incident after it had happened.

The body was moved to the mortuary as investigations got underway.

Elsewhere, a plumber was electrocuted in Kasarani, Nairobi.

Another worker sustained serious injuries when a ladder they were using got into contact with live wires.

The two were fixing gutters at a private home when the incident happened.

The body of the deceased was moved to the mortuary while the injured one was rushed to the hospital in serious condition.

Such incidents have been on the rise in the city with a lack of safety gear being blamed for the trend.

Officials have been calling on developers to ensure the safety of workers.

This follows an increasing trend of fatal accidents at such sites.

Police say they record fatal accidents at construction sites on a daily basis and want various institutions tasked with ensuring the safety of the workers to take action.
