Police have arrested one suspected al-Shabaab militia in Milimani, Lamu County.

In a statement on Monday, the National Police Service said the suspect is part of a group of militants believed to have staged a foiled attack on their camp recently.

"The arrest happened following an intelligence-led operation to flush out remnants of al-Shabaab militants hiding in Boni forest," said NPS.

During the operation, police recovered one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher, one RPG heat warhead, one booster, and two booster housing.

Police said the suspect had a visible suspected-gun-inflicted wound on the left leg above the ankle.

The injuries were allegedly sustained in the previous foiled attack.

The suspect has been placed in custody.

Police have since launched a manhunt to pursue his accomplices believed to be taking cover in Boni forest.

This comes weeks after 10 newly graduated al-Shabaab terrorists were killed in an operation conducted in Boni Forest by Kenya Defence Forces.

KDF said several others escaped with multiple injuries.

The operation was carried out between Sarira and Kolbio areas, within the expansive Boni Forest.

"One RPG launcher, several assault weapons, assorted ammunitions as well as personal effects were recovered during the operations," KDF said.

The militants were part of the Jeysh Ayman team led by Maalim Ayman, KDF said.

KDF added that Ayman had planned to carry out attacks within the Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (LAPSSET) Corridor.

The area has been under operation for years as Kenya seeks to remove the terrorists and their remnants from the region.

NPS encouraged Kenyans to continue sharing information that will lead to the arrest of other al-Shabaab militants.
