The High Court has ordered IEBC to include photos of presidential and gubernatorial running mates on ballot papers pending the hearing of the case.

Justice Antony Mrima issued the interim orders on Wednesday in a case filed by Mugambi Imanyara of the Devolution Empowerment (DE) party.

"That pending the hearing and determination of the petition herein, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission shall include the photograph or images of the persons who were nominated as Deputy Presidents and Deputy Governors in the ballots to be used in the General Election to be held on August 9, 2022," Justice Mrima ruled.

Traditionally, IEBC includes only the photos of presidential and gubernatorial candidates on ballot papers and symbols of their parties.

The commission is expected to start printing ballot papers on Thursday.

Justice Mrima said the commission has time to comply with the court order.

"Since the printing exercise is yet to begin, the respondent can still comply with the order of the Court," he said.

The ODM party had been listed as an interested party in the suit.

IEBC and ODM have been given five days to file their responses to the petition ahead of the hearing of the matter on July 14, 2022.
