Police on Monday saved a robbery with violence suspect from the wrath of irate boda boda riders.

Paul Gaitho, 26, was attacked following two robbery incidents in Lari, Kiambu county.

Police said Gaitho and an accomplice snatched two mobile phones from unsuspecting victims, a woman and a man, who were walking along the road at Lari’s, Mathore market in Kiambu.

"The two who were on a motorbike then sped off, leaving their last victim Patrick Kamau, wailing in distress," the police said.

The distress call attracted the immediate attention of boda boda riders at a nearby shed, who were upbeat waiting for the occasional passengers who rarely showed up.

After around 300 meters of a chase, the two suspected thieves scared by the reverberating noise of over 20 bikes, jumped from their bikes opting to escape on foot instead.

One of them managed to escape in the midst of traders selling their wares close to Exen Petrol station, as his accomplice tumbled by the roadside and begged for mercy.

"What followed from the unforgiving Nduthi men was a barrage of blows and kicks as they administered instant street justice to the man, accusing him and his accomplice of using motorbikes as their gateway means thus giving their trade a bad reputation," police narrated.

The general officers on duty at Lari Police Station got wind of the commotion and moved to save the man.

The police recovered the two mobile phones stolen and impounded the motorbike, as its registration plate was damaged.
