Only one candidate submitted an application for the UDA Mathira MP seat ticket.

Eric Mwangi Kahugu will be flying the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket for Mathira MP in the August 9 poll.

This on emerged Thursday after he became the only aspirant who submitted his application to be considered for the seat.

Kahugu will now replace Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua who will not be defending his seat after he was picked as Deputy President William Ruto's running mate.

"We only received one application," the source who is not permitted to talk to the press told the Star.

UDA had on Tuesday called for applications from aspirants intending to run for the seat setting May 19, as the deadline.

"On May 15, Hon Gachagua, the UDA candidate for Mathira was nominated as the party's running mate...in view of this development, the party invites applications for this position within three days," read the notice in part.

The party is now set to submit the name of Kahugu to IEBC as its flag bearer for the constituency.
