UDA invites applications for Mathira MP seat ticket after Ruto picked Gachagua

The applicants have been instructed to submit their letters before or on May 20.

UDA has invited applications from aspirants interested in contesting for the Mathira Constituency parliamentary seat.

In a statement on Tuesday, the William Ruto-led party said the position was vacant for a UDA candidate.

"On Sunday, Rigathi Gachagua, the UDA candidate for Mathira MP was nominated as the UDA deputy presidential flagbearer. A s a result, he will not be contesting for the MP seat," Anthony Mwaura, the UDA NEB chairperson said.

Applicants have been instructed to submit their letters before or on May 20.

The Political Parties Act allows a political party to substitute the name of a parliamentary candidate who resigns after the particulars have been submitted to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Section 13 of the Elections Act 2011 states that the replacement can only be done before the candidates formally present their papers to the IEBC.

The Commission gazette extended the timeline for the  Nominated candidates for parliamentary seats to submit papers to their Constituency returning officer between May 29 and May 31.

Ruto on Sunday unveiled Gachagua as his running mate for the August 9, polls.

He described Gachagua as a man who understands people's issues.

"Gachagua is my friend whom  I have worked with, especially on that Bottom-Up Economic model and we started that journey together. He is passionate about ordinary people," Ruto said.
