Search for Raila's running mate begins after Azimio meeting

The alliance's top organ tasked a panel to recommend possible persons for the position.

Azimio-One Kenya Alliance's top Council has sanctioned a process to identify Raila Odinga's running mate ahead of the August 9 polls.

The jumbo alliance's top organ on Thursday tasked a panel to recommend possible persons for the second-highest position.

"We have mandated an advisory panel to recommend suitable candidates for running mate," Azimio Council Secretary-General Junet Mohammed said.

"The Council also resolve to appoint an advisory panel to recommend suitable candidates for the running mate slot," Junet said.

The Suna East MP did not however give timelines within which the panel should submit their report.

The Council meeting chaired by President Uhuru Kenyatta at KICC also resolved to create new structures in the coalition party.

They include; Coalition Elections Board, Coalition Elections Appeals Board, National Disciplinary Committee and Dispute Resolution panel.

National Coalitions Executive Committee will forward suitable names for the newly created structures.

The meeting was also attended by Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, Wiper boss Kalonzo Musyoka, Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, Martha Karua (Narc Kenya), Charity Ngilu (Narc) and Wafula Wamunyinyi (DAP-K) were among Azimio party leaders who attended the early morning meeting.

Taveta MP Naomi Shaban, Muranga Woman Representative Sabina Chege and Junet Mohammed were also present.
