For the first time after endorsing the ODM leader Raila Odinga's presidential bid, President Uhuru Kenyatta will have his first visit to the Mt Kenya region by gracing the AIPCA church event in Kandara, Murang'a.

Deputy President William Ruto and his Mt Kenya allies have announced that they will also attend the function.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome, who on Tuesday announced that she will be there to welcome the President, said Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata and Maragua MP Mary Wamaua will be present.

It would be the first time the two would be sharing a room after months of verbal exchanges on the political podiums over the August 9 election

Uhuru allies have noted that there is nothing for the President to fear as he has made his position clear on the succession debate.

Gatanga MP Nduati Ngugi told the Star they are adequately prepared to accompany the President on the tour, saying it is expected he’ll address residents.

“We met as area leaders under the Jubilee banner and agreed we will receive the President and accompany him to all the stops he would make,” the MP said.

The President will be flanked by Murang’a governor Mwangi Wa Iria, MPs Sabina Chege (Woman Rep), Wangari Mwaniki (Kigumo), Nduati Ngugi (Gatanga), aspirants Kembi Gitura and Jamleck Kamau among other Jubilee MPs.

About 12,000 AIPCA faithful - drawn from across the country, are expected to attend the National Holy Oil Consecration event at Gakarara.

Uhuru is expected to make several stopovers in Murang'a after gracing the church function.

Having declared his support for Raila, it is a matter of waiting and seeing whether he will implore the region to rally behind the opposition chief.
