Homa Bay MP Peter Kaluma has said that if actions are to be taken, ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi should be held accountable for the 'misused' public funds during the BBI process.

Speaking to Citizen TV on Friday morning, Kaluma said that since Mudavadi was initially a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) proponent, he should remember that if actions are to be taken, he will be included.

This comes after the ANC leader said that those who are responsible for the constitutional amendment should be brought to trial for the resources used for the BBI process.

He spoke hours after the BBI was declared unconstitutional.

“We want accountability. Those who were involved should be investigated, evidence provided and Kenyans should get back their money. We cannot have a government that is experimenting on the people of Kenya every year, every season,” he said.

Kaluma added that Mudavadi should stop playing politics as he has not yet understood them.

“Mudavadi is a land economist. I would advise that he gets good lawyers and forget about politics out of his mind. He is playing politics which is something he does not understand,” he said.

Further, Kaluma said that the Supreme Court judgment on BBI opens wide doors to amendments.

He added that Mudavadi knows that the BBI amendment cannot be done before the August 9 polls as it will be overburdening Kenyans.

The MP said that the BBI proponents were looking to increase the flow of resources from the national level to the citizens.

“We were looking at how to increase the number of resources from the national level downwards from the bare minimum of 15 per cent to 35 per cent,” he said.

On Thursday, as Mudavadi congratulated the Supreme Court on its decision, he said that the BBI proponents had used more than Sh20 billion.

“The BBI proponents should be held accountable as the Supreme Court has said that public funds were misused.”
