Linda Katiba has insisted that the decision by Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua to join Azimio la Umoja does not affect their mission in any way.

In a statement on Friday, the organization said it will continue to fight and protect the 2010  Constitution of Kenya as it is the will of the people.

"We are determined to keep resisting the Presidency-led efforts to unconstitutionally cannibalize and overthrow the will of the people of Kenya encapsulated in the COK 2010," the statement read.

"We believe that our 2010 constitution holds great promise for the Kenyan people and when fully implemented will bring about the transformative changes envisioned by its framers and the Kenyans who voted for it in August 2010."

The organisation noted that there should be no misunderstanding of Linda Katiba’s leadership as it does not have hierarchical leadership or an individual as the leader but collegial leadership.

They said this just two days after Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua endorsed Azimio la Umoja movement presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Karua has been part of Linda Katiba and was vocal on matters touching the Constitution, especially when Raila and his handshake partner President Uhuru Kenyatta were drumming up support for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

Through the lobby group, she had raised concerns that most assemblies did not conduct adequate public participation and that MCAs were only impressed by the car grant to approve the Bill.

She had also claimed that the elite politicians are seeking to use the amendments to extend their time in power.

Notably, the organisation said that it respects and uphold the freedom of political choice for all Kenyans. Our strength is found in our diversity

Karua officially joined the Azimio la Umoja coalition led by ODM leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday, March 23.

She joined the Azimio camp after closed-door consultation with the opposition chief at Serena Hotel, Nairobi.

Speaking to a joint-presser with the Azimio leader, Karua said Raila is her preferred successor in the 2022 race.
