Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has officially joined the Azimio La Umoja coalition led by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
The veteran politician joined the Azimio camp on Wednesday after closed-door consultation with the opposition chief at Serena Hotel, Nairobi.
Speaking to a joint-presser with the Azimio leader, Karua said Raila is her preferred successor in the 2022 race.
"I'm here to confirm that from now onwards, Narc Kenya and I are supporting the Azimio La Umoja flagbearer Raila Odinga for the presidency," she said.
Karua declared that she will henceforth hit the road to drum up support of Raila's presidential bid.
She lauded the opposition chief as the best bet for the country saying she is ready to rally her supporters behind him
Narc Kenya secretary-general Michael Orwa confirmed that the party resolved to open talks with the ODM leader for a possibility of working together ahead of the August 9, polls.
"The party has resolved to start having a conversation on working together with the leader of the Azimio," Orwa said before Karua announced that a deal has been sealed.
Her joining Azimio La Umoja comes a day after she hinted at joining the Raila Odinga-led camp.
Karua told Citizen TV on Tuesday that she is open to deputising Raila for the top seat in the event the idea is tabled.
Karua has been billed as a potential running mate of the top presidential contenders in the country.
On the Kenya Kwanza Alliance side, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Tuesday urged the Narc leader to choose their side and deputise Deputy President William Ruto who is seeking the presidency.
Her choice to join Azimio La Umoja is a huge win for Raila who is seeking the support of the Mt Kenya region.
Karua is one of the formidable female politicians in the country who have the ability to sway crowds towards a particular direction.
Having joined politics in the 1990s, the female politician is hands-on in strategising for high stakes polls such as the August 9, polls.
