Deputy President William Ruto has welcomed former Tana River Governor Hussein Dhado, the Speaker of the Tana River County Assembly and 14 MCAs to the United Democratic Alliance.
The DP took to Twitter to reveal the new boost even as he seeks to clinch the presidency in the August 9, polls.
“You have made the right choice, this is the vehicle that will lead ordinary Kenyans to a new economic reality,” he tweeted.
MPs Danson Mugatana and Ibrahim Sane (Garsen) also officially joined the United Development Alliance.
In the last week, there have been waves of high-profile defections sweeping across the two major political parties.
This comes three days after 18 City MCAs defected to the party.
Waithaka MCA Anthony Kiragu, who was among the 18, said he defected to UDA because of the ideologies he shares with DP Ruto.
Both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja have suffered blows and celebrated wins over the political defections.
The IEBC is set to register candidates from May 29 to June 9.
Political parties will conduct nominations in April.
