Deputy President William Ruto now says the bottom-up economic model being propagated by his camp is contained in the Bible.

Speaking in Murang'a, Ruto quoted  Psalms 113: 7-8 as the verse explaining the analogy of the bottom-up economic model that he seeks to use to turn around the country's economy.

"Maybe you as Christians are wondering where this bottom-up came from. Haven't you heard of bottom-up? I want you to read Psalms 113:7-8. That is the bottom-up; there is no other explanation," Ruto said during a church service at ACK St. James and All Martyrs Memorial Cathedral.

Psalms 113:7-8 says: "He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap; he seats them with princes, with the princes of his people".

The DP explained that the scripture serves as the perfect illustration of the model.

The bottom-up economic model has drawn mixed reactions among leaders with those allied to ODM leader Raila Odinga dismissing it as insignificant in bettering the lives of Kenyans.

Ruto has maintained that the trickle-down economic model has proved disadvantageous to many Kenyans who struggling to eke out a living.

In his desire to uplift the poor, Ruto said channelling resources where the poor are is key in improving the economic conditions of many poor Kenyans.

Ruto has maintained that the model will bring more Kenyans into the tax bracket and boost the economy of the country.

He seeks to implement the model by allocating a Sh100 billion kitty that will benefit small business enterprises in improving their ventures.
