National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has said that the Mt Kenya region will not bow down to anyone.

In a statement on Friday, the Speaker said he realised things were wrong when President Uhuru Kenyatta pleaded with ODM leader Raila Odinga not to forget the region, if he succeeds him.

Muturi who ditched Jubilee party for the Democratic Party asked when Mt Kenya people became beggars, insisting that they were not going to bow down to anyone.

"When I heard the president plead with Raila Odinga not to forget Mt Kenya region once he succeeds him, I realized we're not headed in the right direction as a region," he said.

"Hapo ndo nikasema kimeumana'. Since when did we start begging? We will not bow down to anyone."

He has insisted on vying for presidency in the August polls.

The Speaker who is in Tharaka Nithi County noted that his party will form coalitions with like minded parties, adding that it is through coalitions that a stable government can be formed.

Muturi also reiterated that there must be respect among coalition partners.

"What makes a coalition strong, is respect among leaders and honoring the agreement. Democratic Party will not engage with anyone who feels his party is bigger than other parties," he said.
