Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi has said that the ODM party leader Raila Odinga cannot rig votes in order to win an election.
Speaking in an interview on Citizen TV on Wednesday, the MP said that the Azimio la Umoja presidential candidate believed that campaigning and selling his agenda to Kenyans would eventually earn him votes.
“I know him very well. I have been with him since he first ran for the presidency in 1997 on an NDP ticket... He has never believed in rigging the elections to win. He campaigns, sells his agendas to the people and gets genuine votes,” Wandanyi said.
The MP said he does not take politicians like Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria seriously.
“Moses Kuria was trying to make us believe that he helped Uhuru Kenyatta become president,” Wandanyi said.
"These are my colleagues, I know them. They cannot be presidents because they do not have the capacity. They have gauged themselves and they know they cannot get any votes,” he said.
He said this to counter the remarks made by the Gatundu South MP during the UDA NDC at Kasarani on Tuesday
Kuria told the delegates that he was supporting Ruto because he is a good human being. He further claimed 'they rigged votes for President Uhuru Kenyatta'.
"Kuna wengine wanasema ati kura ya mlima itagawanywa; mheshimiwa Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi…Sisi ndio tulikuwa tukishikilia Uhuru kura, na sisi ndio tulikuwa tunamuibia kura,” Kuria stated.
Loosely translates to: "Some people are saying that the Mt Kenya votes will be divided; Governor Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi...we are the ones who protected Uhuru's votes and we are the one who rigged for him votes".
Further, Wandanyi said that Raila would win because he has a transformative agenda that Kenyans will buy.
