UDA delegates at Deputy President William Ruto's unveiling as the party's flag-bearer brought the function to a standstill after they jeered President Uhuru Kenyatta by chanting "Yote yawezekana bila Uhuru".

The chants emerged when Ruto was delivering his acceptance speech as the UDA party presidential nominee.

The delegates estimated to be over 5,000 gathered at the Kasarani gymnasium in Nairobi on Tuesday.

The chants began shortly after the second in command stated that he would free the state agencies that have been used by the government to settle political scores.

"On our first day in office we will free the DCI, we will free the KRA," Ruto said.

In his address, the Deputy President called out the current leadership saying that it had made the running of the country about a few individuals.

He insisted that Kenya is about 50 million people, calling out President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga led Building Bridges Initiative.

"They have told us they will bring back the BBI, we will not go back," Ruto said.

He also accused the proposers of the initiative of only being after having control of independent agencies like the judiciary, among others.

The Deputy President also told his opponents that he is prepared to face them in the August 9 polls, promising the United Democratic Alliance delegates that he will deliver victory to them, in the coming polls.

"To our partners and opponents, we are prepared for you," Ruto said during his address in Kasarani.

"I'm determined to give you a campaign you will be proud of and a win for our party."

The Deputy President said it has been an honour serving Kenyans in that capacity, having been the first elected DP.

About 5,000 delegates have endorsed Ruto as the party's presidential flag-bearer.
