UDA unanimously endorses Ruto to lock horns with Raila in August polls

UDA delegates have unanimously endorsed Deputy President William Ruto as the party’s presidential candidate in the August 9 General Elections.

The delegates endorsed Ruto after a closed door session on Tuesday.

The DP was accompanied by his wife Rachel. He arrived at the fully packed indoor arena to a wild reception.

Among the leaders present are Governor Anne Waiguru, UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina, chairman Johnstone Muthama, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and Kandara MP Alice Wahome.

Meanwhile, supporters of UDA trooped to the venue in their thousands- in yellow and green attires- for Ruto's big day.

Traders took advantage of the occasion to make money selling UDA T-shirts, caps and flags. Food and drinks were also available.

Businessman Jimi Wanjigi is among guests attending the United Democratic Alliance delegates conference at the Kasarani stadium.

Wanjigi arrived at Kasarani a few minutes past noon on Tuesday, in the company of Chama Cha Kazi party leader Moses Kuria.

Speaking to the press, Wanjigi said he was there because of friendship.

"Hakuna muungano, ni urafiki tu," he said.
