The Kenya Kwanza Alliance has not picked its presidential candidate, Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa has said.

Speaking on Tuesday, Wamalwa said there was still an ongoing discussion over the matter and Deputy President William Ruto is among the front runners.

"It is work in progress and as we speak right now, he (DP Ruto) is one of the front runners," the Ford Kenya MP said on Citizen TV.

His remarks came ahead of the UDA National Delegates Conference where the DP was endorsed as the party's presidential flagbearer.

In the alliance that comprises UDA, Ford Kenya and Amani National Congress, Ruto is expected to be the outfit's flagbearer in the August 9 polls.

The DP is also keen on picking a running mate from the Mt Kenya region despite calls by allied parties that ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi deputises him.

ANC leaders are demanding the deputy president slot, a move that may cause anxiety in one of the formidable political associations in the country.

Led by Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala, the leaders stated that the party will not settle for anything less than the deputy president slot.

Malala, who was meeting the residents of the Malava constituency, said ANC will not repeat the mistakes they made when they joined the disintegrated Nasa coalition four years ago.

He added that for many years the party has been supporting other people but this time around they are putting their demands forward.
