Renowned athletes joined the 10km run to commemorate the UNEP at 50th Anniversary.
The UNEP at 50 session happened during the UNEA5 event which took place in Nairobi on March 3 and 4. The United Nations Environment Assembly adopted a landmark resolution committing to adopt a legally binding agreement by 2024 to end plastic pollution.
“The special session will be held under the overall theme of ‘Strengthening UNEP for the implementation of the environmental dimension of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,’” a UN event notice read.
The notice added that UNEP at 50 was a time to reflect on the past and visualize the future.
They further noted that it provided an opportunity to strengthen international cooperation and encourage collective action to address climate change, biodiversity and nature loss, and pollution.
