Two suspected robbers were on Tuesday night shot dead by DCI detectives on Ngong Road, Nairobi.

According to the directorate, the duo is suspected to have terrorized members of the public along Adams Arcade Ngong Road.

"What captured the officers' attention was a parked motorcycle bearing an obscured registration plate, followed by a sudden tussle between two youthful men and members of the public," the DCI said.

According to the police report, the two gun-toting men hopped on the bike and jerked away as soon as they realized police were on their trail.

Their move to take off triggered a hot pursuit coupled with a rapid exchange of fire.

"As the fleeing duo revved up towards Dagoretti Corner on the wrong side of the traffic, the relentless officers closed in, cornering them at the Riara-Naivasha Rd junction," the DCI said.

"Realizing that their fastest escape means had hit a cul-de-sac, the two crazed miscreants made vain efforts to dart away, defying surrender orders."

Police said both the suspects were fatally shot in the nighttime encounter.

A pistol, three mobile phones and a Rolex wristwatch were recovered from them.

"Efforts to trace the victims of the violent robbery is underway, to have their valuables handed over once legal procedures are completed," the DCI said.
