Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has said the ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi is the best bet for the OKA flagbearer for the August 9 elections.
Speaking in an interview on Monday evening, Malala said if Musalia is not picked as OKA flagbearer, the ANC party might end its membership in the alliance.
“Mahali Musalia Mudavadi ataenda, ndio Malala ataenda. Akienda Azimio, nitaenda na Musalia Azimio asubuhi na mapema. Akienda UDA nitafika huko hata kabla yeye hajafika. (Where Musalia will go is where Malala will be. If he moves to Azimio, I will be there. If it is UDA I will be there even before he gets there),” Malala said.
He added that Mudavadi and the entire ANC party is at liberty to look for friends in terms of forming coalitions ahead of the 2022 election.
“Kama naibu wa rais William Ruto atamfanya Musalia kua rais wa jamhuri ya kenya, basi wafanye kazi pamoja. Kama Raila Odinga ataamka leo na aseme mimi nimeona huyu Musalia anatosha, basi nitafanya kazi -pamoja na Raila ( If DP Ruto will be willing to support Musalia and make him the president, I have no problem working with him. If Raila will decide to work with Musalia and endorse him, why should I not work with him?).”
Malala said their main agenda in the ongoing negotiation with other parties is for Musalia to be a flagbearer, but added they are also ready for further consultations.
“Our fair minimum demand is for Mudavadi to be in the government that will unite all Kenyans…nobody is going to take advantage of our party leader," he said.
The senator has also asked the OKA principals to allow the ANC party to negotiate with its delegates in the forthcoming national delegates meeting on January 23 on the way forward before coming up with the formation on who will be the flagbearer.
