National Police Service Spokesperson, Bruno Shioso has said that the government will give the Sh60 million reward following the recapture of escapee convicts.

In a statement on Sunday, Shioso said the process will be subject to due process to ensure the money is given to the deserving.

"The government intends to honor its pledge on the cash reward offer. This will however, be subject to a due verification process to ensure the reward goes to deserving recipients," he said.

"The Government acknowledges that the rearrests of the suspects was made possible with the support from members of the public."

Shioso noted several people had laid claim that they separately played a role in the capture of the escapee terror convicts.

He added that because of the nature of the matter, it might be difficult to make public who the individuals are.

"The security nature of the incident and the risk of harm to those who genuinely aided the capture of the high value trio may militate against a full public disclosure of the eventual beneficiaries of the cash award."

On November 16, the NPS offered a reward of Sh20 million for information that would lead to the capture of each of the three convicts.

"PRISON BREAK! A reward of Sh60 Million will be offered to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the following three terror suspects, who escaped from Kamiti Maximum Security Prison today at 1am."

The three terror convicts were on November 18 arrested in Mwingi, Kitui county.

The three, Musharraf Abdalla, Joseph Juma and Mohammed Abdi were nabbed as they headed to Garissa.

Police said the suspects were headed for Somalia.

They escaped on November 15 from Block A 6 where they had been held.

The escape led to the arrest of 13 wardens and major changes in the Kenya Prisons.

Locals in a village in Kitui had reported spotting the three and that they looked tired.

Residents said the three, who looked exhausted and thirsty, bought a lot of milk, bottled water, bread and biscuits from local shops and paid by cash.

They raised suspicions when they asked for directions to Boni Forest in Lamu County.
