Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has asked Deputy President William Ruto to work closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta to easily deliver government projects.

Speaking on Thursday in an interview with Radio Citizen, Ngilu criticised Ruto for concentrating too much on his future political ambitions,  instead of helping Uhuru to deliver to Kenyans.

“Deputy President William Ruto needs to refocus and help President Uhuru Kenyatta deliver the promises they both made together to Kenyans. His engagement in 2022 sideshows with his lieutenants from within government only serves to derail government programs,” Ngilu said.

Ngilu’s comments come after a meeting at State House where leaders from Ukambani met Uhuru ahead of his regional tour.

They asked the President for more development projects and thanked him for considering their requirements during the meeting.

“We also appreciate the President for the Kitui Mutomo Kibwezi road which has opened up our region and connected the eastern region with the Mombasa port. This is a game-changer for our region,” Ngilu said.

The governor added that the president will launch Kitui County Textile Centre Trade and Manufacturing (KICOTEC) and inspect the ongoing construction of the Thwake dam in his upcoming visit.

Uhuru will start his tour to the Ukambani region on June 28 and 29, where he will be in Machakos and Makueni on June 28 and Kitui on June 29.

The meeting at the State House was attended by other leaders from the region including Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua among others.

During the meeting, the president asked Kalonzo and other Nasa coalition co-principals to consider reuniting ahead of the 2022 elections, where he promised to support one of them.

“Steve (Kalonzo), listen to your people and what they are saying. Unite in Nasa then we shall see what will happen. Whatever you will agree on is what I will go with,” the President said.

Ngilu also urged leaders from Ukambani to unite for the sake of development.

“If we do regional politics, we will not see the presidency, but if we unite as leaders, we will all win.”

Uhuru also admitted that in his current last term in office, he has managed to deliver more to Kenyans than his first term due to fewer interruptions after the Handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga.
